A coffee table also called as cocktail table is a long low table which is usually found in the sitting room. If you are a person who loves to entertain guests at your house you would specifically desire for your sitting room to look great. A sitting room should have all the facilities that give comfort to the people there. This is the reason why many people emphasize on having a table that goes along with the ambiance of your sitting room.
Coffee tables are also used as end tables in some homes. Such homes may not have the space to have a coffee table a foot or two in front of the sofa or group of chairs. Placing them as end tables is a good solution and they can still act as accent tables. End tables are also good for the placement of reading lamps when you need a little extra light for reading or hobbies such as knitting quilting or needlepoint.
The material also has its importance. Glass tables are very beautiful and fit in most rooms but are more difficult to maintain and if there are young children in the house they are not the ideal as accidents can occur. White is a very beautiful colour but again it is difficult to maintain. Even a single cup placed directly on the table it can leave marks. Do not be afraid of colour. A mass of orange green or red will be a splash of colour and will cheer you up every morning. Usual height of coffee tables is normally between 40 and 45 inches. If you often have guests a higher one might be more suited because everyone will be able to reach their cup. A rule of interior design says that the height of the coffee table should be about the same height (or not less than five inches lower than) the couch. Ideal length is two thirds of the couch. However no rule is set in stone. Depending on your tastes and the rest of the room you can choose what ever size and colour coffee table you wish.
And lets not forget the comfort coffee tables can bring to a room. After a hard day at work or school its nice to be able to sink into a soft chair or sofa and prop your feet up. With a coffee table you can do that. Just be careful not to knock over the accent items or the coffee table book! Maybe you can have a trunk style coffee table for just such foot propping.
So after youve dreamt about what you want write down what it is you want your new piece of furniture to do for you. Do you want it to be simple stylish and elegant and mainly to look good? Or do you want it to be functional and enable you to eat off it in the morning or even for dinner? its also really important not to get distracted by a round wood table that looks amazing but doesnt fulfill all your requirements. For example many are quite low so great for putting magazines on or your feet up but not good for eating off of. The great thing about round wood coffee tables thought is that there are designs to fit all your needs.
Lift Top Coffee Tables - this is like an additional piece of material on the existing tables. The basic concept behind their unique design is the utility of the additional piece. The top of the table is detachable and can be lowered or raised according to the required adjustments. These tables are used mainly for the purpose of eating in front of the TV or using laptops. They make it easier for you to access the contents on the table without making any extra effort.
